The Glow Guide: 5 Things Your Skin Wishes You Knew About Hydration

A simple approach to softer, more nourished skin, inspired by Kiyo.

My grandmother Kiyo was always complimented on her beautiful skin. Her secret was beautifully simple: hydration inside and out. She understood something that is easy to forget now that skincare has become so complicated: beautiful skin does not always require more products, more steps or perfection. Often, it begins with consistent care, drinking enough water, nourishing the body, protecting the skin’s moisture and turning those small choices into a daily ritual. That philosophy inspired The Glow Guide and our first KIYO hydration edit: a thoughtfully selected collection of rich moisturizers, nourishing oils, skin-softening bars and restorative lip care designed to help keep skin soft and replenished from lips to body.

Here are five things your skin wishes you knew about hydration.

1. Hydration begins within, but it does not end there

Water supports the entire body, including the skin, but hydration is about more than carrying a water bottle everywhere you go. Start the day with water, sip consistently and include water-rich foods such as cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, oranges, tomatoes and leafy greens. Healthy fats matter, too. Foods such as avocado, olive oil, nuts, seeds and fatty fish provide fats that support the skin’s natural barrier, the layer that helps keep moisture from escaping.

Think of hydration as a whole-body practice: drink it, eat it and protect it.

2. Dry and dehydrated are not the same thing

Dry skin generally lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water. Your skin can even feel oily and dehydrated at the same time. That distinction matters because moisture and oil play different roles. A lotion or moisturizer adds water-based hydration and ingredients that help soften the skin. An oil helps seal that moisture in and reduces the dry, tight feeling that can return after bathing. For an easy everyday layer, we love Skin Trip Coconut Moisturizer. Its lightweight feel makes it simple to use consistently, while the coconut-inspired scent turns an ordinary step into a little escape.

3. Your shower may be working against you

A long, very hot shower can feel wonderful, but it can also leave skin feeling dry and tight. Choose warm water instead of hot, use a gentle cleanser and avoid aggressively scrubbing the skin.

Your cleansing step should leave your skin feeling comfortable, not squeaky, stripped or desperate for lotion. The Wild Bird Apothecary Hydration Bar brings a more nourishing, skin-softening feel to the ritual, making it a beautiful alternative for anyone ready to make even the simplest daily step feel more intentional.

4. The best time to moisturize is while your skin is still slightly damp

Do not wait until your skin is completely dry after bathing. Gently pat it with a towel, leaving a little moisture behind, then apply lotion. Follow with an oil or hydration bar anywhere that needs extra care, hands, elbows, knees, cuticles or heels.

This simple layering method matters:

1. Water replenishes.

2. Moisturizer softens and supports hydration.

3. Oil or a richer balm helps seal everything in.

For a beautiful final layer, WOO Oil is a multipurpose ritual for skin, hair, nails and cuticles. Warm a few drops between your palms and press it into damp skin for a soft, luminous finish.

And do not forget the lips. They are often the first place dehydration shows up. Abature Lip Care brings concentrated care to dry, uncomfortable lips and makes an easy everyday ritual feel a little more luxurious.

The most effective ritual is the one you will actually repeat.

Keep lotion where you can see it. Place lip care in your bag and beside your bed. Apply oil after your shower instead of saving it for a special occasion. Give your hands, cuticles, elbows and heels attention before they begin to feel dry.

Hydration does not have to become another complicated routine. It can be a glass of water in the morning, a warm, not hot shower, moisturizer on damp skin and thirty quiet seconds to care for yourself before moving into the rest of your day.

Small rituals, repeated often, become the things that make a difference.

The KIYO Glow Oil Recipe

This simple, fragrance-free blend is designed to soften the skin and help seal in moisture without an unnecessary list of ingredients.

You will need:

● 5 teaspoons jojoba oil

● 1 teaspoon rosehip seed oil

● One clean, dry 1-ounce glass dropper bottle

To make it

Add both oils to the bottle, close it tightly and gently roll the bottle between your palms to combine. Label it with the date and store it closed in a cool, dark place, following the storage guidance and expiration dates on the original oils.

To use it

After bathing, pat your skin until it is still slightly damp. Warm a few drops between your palms and gently press or massage the oil into the skin. Use a little more on hands, cuticles, elbows, knees and heels.

For facial use, begin with one or two drops and patch test first. Avoid the eye area and broken or irritated skin, and stop using the blend if irritation develops.

Shop the Hydration Ritual

We selected each product in the KIYO hydration edit to make caring for dry, thirsty skin feel simple, effective and beautiful. Layer them together or choose the step your routine is missing: a lightweight everyday moisturizer, a more nourishing cleansing experience, a multitasking oil or deeply restorative lip care.

Because glowing skin does not require perfection. It begins with hydration, consistency and care.
