About the Event

Somatic connection engages our whole person with a focus on the sensations in our body (soma). Mindfulness, breath and intentional movement can assist us in both healing our trauma as well as day-to-day nervous system regulation.

Our nervous system is like an information superhighway, and while there is communication moving from the brain to the body, there is considerably more communication from the body to the brain. This means that "mind over matter" alone isn't an effective way to regulate our nervous system long term.

Because each of our thoughts and emotions has a sensation, and sensations are felt in the body, we process thoughts and emotions by engaging with the body. Contrary to what many of us have been taught, we do not process emotion simply by "thinking it through." By nature emotions aren't necessarily logical or even reasonable. Our minds think thoughts. Our bodies feel feelings.

This workshop is intended to increase awareness and noticing in our bodies to help serve us in healing and regulating our nervous systems day-to-day.  It is appropriate for those with little to no experience engaging somatically, and those with a daily practice.

Disclaimers:

• Connecting to the sensations in our bodies is not integration, and that is not the intention of this workshop.

• For your safety and comfort, and that of the other participants, if we recognize a possible CPTSD, PTSD or other trauma related response(s), we will ask you to end the workshop early, with a full refund. All other registration fees are non refundable.
